another update on my computer

ok... so... the problem is not the onboard audio controller (a.k.a. the via vinyl audio codec). i was running sisoft sandra to see what the deal was with the hardware, right? and it said the “mainboard” temperature was 66 degrees celsius, whereas the cpu was only 55 degrees. pretty fucking fishy if you ask me, because the cpu generates much more heat than the mainboard, so it should be much hotter. the rom bios was out of date so i updated to the latest bios for the abit nv7, and the update ran flawlessly. now, in the bios setup menu, it said that the “pwr” temperature was 66 degrees and the “cpu” was 55 degrees. so maybe the temperature sensor is in the power supply or something? i turned off the computer and opened it up. it wasn’t actually that hot inside. everything seemed to be made by reputable, well-known manufacturers: abit motherboard with via chipset, amd cpu, fan, and heatsink, kingston memory, evga.com nvidia video card, western digital hard drive, etc. there was just one oddity: the power supply/chassis fan unit is made by some company i never heard of, and does not have much information on the side. oh it lists some shit about how many volts and watts and all that, but i couldn’t find anything about how many rpm its fan is, or anything like that. and i looked at the wires coming out of the power supply. hardly any of them. cheap-ass piece of shit power supply. and the power supply also includes the chassis fan that is supposed to cool the entire computer tower. it is made by a company called “okia”, with model number “okia-450atx”. so it is 450 watts. that is almost certainly enough, but i am sure the quality of this unit leaves much to be desired. a better model would have a better fan and offer better cooling, and also provide a more stable source of electricity. lately there have been thunderstorms practically every day, and lots of momentary blips in the electric power to our house. i need a power supply that can deal with that shit. it is too bad nikola tesla is not around anymore... he would have made the best power supplies ever! he is the greatest electricity expert the world has ever known. the world could use more scientists like him. if you can, you should read about nikola tesla... he did the craziest experiments. he electrocuted himself all the time, on purpose, in front of large audiences, and did all sorts of astounding tricks. he could hold a light bulb in his hand and have it glow, he could shoot lightning from his fingertips, and he could create red fireballs in his hands and hold them there without getting burned. in his later years, tesla was regarded by the public as a demented mad scientist, but what happened after his death tells everything. the u.s. government seized all of his property, and would not let his friends or family even look at any of it, saying it was top-secret and classified and a national security matter. apparently, he had come up with ideas that could be very useful in warfare, and our government did not want them to fall into the hands of the enemy. anyway, nobody alive today is nearly as big of an expert in electricity as tesla was; he invented alternating current, for crying out loud. anyway, when i took the a+ certification class, the teacher was really big on thermaltake, a manufacturer of computer cases and cooling solutions and fans and power supplies. maybe i should get one of their power supply/fan units. and my cpu fan/heatsink is made by amd, and came with the cpu. there are more advanced cooling solutions available. mainly, i need to cool off my computer because it gets way too hot, and this overheating is “killing it softly”. and the crappy power supply is also killing it, too. but i can move my computer to a location where it is surrounded by air, at least. that is better than where i was keeping it, inside a cabinet on my desk. yes, the cabinet door was open, but it was still surrounded on 5 of 6 sides by wood. maybe just moving it out to where it is surrounded by air might be enough to fix it. who knows? i could also add a case fan, since it doesn’t have one. i dunno whether they are necessary. hmm.
